Hong Kong builds mass COVID-19 facilities in rush to contain outbreak

Hong Kong is rushing to build facilities for COVID-19 patients, including a temporary hospital, mass isolation rooms, and makeshift morgues, as it struggled to contain a worsening COVID-19 outbreak.

As a surge in COVID-19 cases overwhelms Hong Kong's health-care facilities, authorities have deployed mainland medical and construction workers, as well as building materials, to speed up efforts to contain an outbreak of the virus.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday said the city was still making plans for universal COVID-19 testing, as infections in the global financial hub have surged to record highs of more than 500,000 cases and more than 2,500 deaths - most in the past two weeks.
