HIV Preventing Medication (PrEP) Will Not Be Covered, Judge Rules | What You Should Know

Recently a Federal Judge in Texas passed a ruling that HIV Preventative Medication PrEP, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (such as Truvada), does not need to be covered by insurance as it can be an exemption when citing religious reasons. This medication had been protected by the Affordable Care Act as a medication that prevents infectious disease, but this has taken a turn, now that employers believe it promotes a homosexual lifestyle. Pre Exposure Prophylaxis is 99% effective at preventing HIV transmission. HIV being the virus that can lead to AIDS. This ruling puts millions at harm, and has far reaching affects through many communities. Today we discuss what this banning of PreP medication like Truvada for preventing HIV means, and what this contraversy could mean for other preventative healthcare measures previously protected by the affordable care act as well.
