‘Refrain’ is a hymn about a tough fight against a common enemy.
My submission for r/nonutnovember’s 2021 Hymn Competition.
## Lyrics
November holds a trial, to entrust
to those enslaved by never-ending lust,
to let them shake a stiff and vexing taint;
discover liberation in restraint.
Refrain, refrain from giving in anew.
Regain, regain the grip to power through.
Unceasing itching battles for the edge;
suppress it to stay loyal to your pledge.
Endure the challenge, though it’s long and hard;
divert your urge and do not drop your guard.
Refrain, refrain from giving in anew.
Retain, retain your courage to pursue.
Triumphant, on the verge to beat our foe,
the moment comes to wield the final blow.
Success arouses what transcends desires:
the highest honour once the month expires.
Refrain, refrain from giving in anew.
Remain, remain determined to subdue.
## Easter eggs
Did you notice that the refrain starts with ‘Refrain’? Or that the first letter of each verse combined, spells out ‘NUT’? A list of all easter eggs can be found here:
