Philippines Says China Fired At Its Supply Vessels In South China Sea; Warns Beijing To Back Off

Philippines says three Chinese Coast Guard vessels blocked & used water cannons on two Manila supply boats on November 16. The clash happened when the supply boats were on their way to a Philippine-occupied atoll in the South China Sea. Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary, Teodoro Locsin, said no one was hurt during the incident at the Second Thomas Shoal. Philippines said the boats were taking food supplies to military personnel stationed nearby. Philippines has occupied the shoal since 1999 after intentionally grounding a navy ship on the reef. China claims that the reef is part of its territory, but a 2016 ruling by International Court in Hague favoured the Philippines.
