Driving in the fast lane, something hanging onto the center median of the highway caught a woman's eye. Something that looked like a dead kitten. She stopped as fast as she could and got out of her car to find that she was half-right. It was, indeed, a kitten. But as bloodied and frozen as it was, she was frantic when she saw it was still alive.
Mason shouldn't be alive. After being rushed to the ER and getting the report from the doctors, rescues know that this kitten has so much trauma to her body that she should have died. Blood is coming out with her urine, both her hip sockets are cracked, her pelvis is broken in several places, part of her spine is fractured, she has nerve damage to one of her legs, her body is in shock and failing, her blood pressure is very abnormal, and her blood sugar is extremely low. In addition to this, Mason is lethargic and pale and in a world of hurt. She is sensitive on almost every part of her body.
It's not clear how a little kitten could end up in the middle of a busy highway, but rescuers get angry just thinking that a human could be involved. That someone could throw a vulnerable kitten out of a speeding car and leave it for dead. There's no way to tell for sure, but the possibility is difficult to take. Right now, Mason is at the hospital receiving supportive care. And as terrible as all this is, she is alive, she is surviving, she is eating, she is alert and she wants to live. In order to live, though, she needs a CT scan and two separate surgeries. Kittens cannot be under anesthesia safely for an extended period of time, and her surgeries are complex. Mason will need to be stabilized with a blood transfusion prior to surgery. We will keep you all updated but ask that you show her kindness by donating towards her care today.
