I know praying mantis eggs survive winter but there are warm December days where it's like 60 F during the day and 28F at night and they've hatched during these days and the frost at night will kill the nymphs or new born mantis. So I keep some outside and some inside where I monitor when they will hatch. I know I have seen around 4 more outside. I leave those there doing whatever is naturally meant to happen. Praying mantis have been extremely helpful at controlling the abundant population of Japanese beetles that can potentially destroy a garden.
