Women Deserve Equal Opportunities on the Playing Field

Madison Kenyon spends countless hours training to be her very best. Yet, no amount of training could overcome the biological advantage of a male athlete who was allowed to compete against her in the women’s cross country and track events for her college conference.

Madison was left in the dust four times in just one season, each time finding herself displaced, frustrated, and deflated. And she wasn’t alone. Hundreds of other young women found themselves in the very same situation because of an unfair policy that denies girls the equal athletic opportunities promised by Title IX.

To protect a fair playing field for female athletes like Madison, Idaho passed the Fairness in Women's Sports Act in March of 2020. The law simply relies on what science tells us about the differences between men and women. It’s there to keep female athletes from paying the price of ignoring biological reality. The ink had barely dried before the ACLU rushed to file a lawsuit asking a judge to strike down the law.

Female athletes deserve a voice. That’s why Madison and her teammate, Mary Kate Marshall—with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom—intervened to defend Idaho’s law and the women and girls it protects.
