Queensland considering masks for children under 12

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young has said she is considering masks for children as young as six years old.

One third of the COVID-19 cases in the Queensland outbreak are children under the age of 12 and it is believed children have been spreading the virus across South East Queensland.

Dr Young said she would be looking to see what other countries had been doing and what kinds of masks would be needed.

“Most places only require masks from the age of 12 and that’s what we’ve always done here in Queensland but we’re looking if it’s possible to do it for younger,” Dr Young said.
