I've only bought clothing second hand for years now and it has been easy, fun, and cheap. If for some reason this is not an option, buying less clothing and opting for high quality, eco friendly, non-synthetic clothing makes a difference. Be sure to also never pay for animal cruelty (fur, leather, down, wool ect) we can and should boycott BOTH synthetic clothing AND animal cruelty, plus the cruelty clothes lie when they say they're good for the environment.
Short documentaries about animals in fashion: https://youtu.be/dP3246I9QTQ

The documentary I mentioned: https://youtu.be/bB3kuuBPVys which showed that excess and low quality used clothing is dumped off in third world areas, ending up in landfills and oceans, as well as dumping our problems onto the impoverished. The least we can do is not pay for these corporations (fast fashion and non-eco friendly clothing companies) to exist.
This is not my area of expertise so if you know a better solution please comment!
