NSW to extend timeframe in between Pfizer jabs

New South Wales will be extending the time between first and second doses of Pfizer administered in state vaccination hubs in order to allow for more people to receive the first jab.

Speaking after Friday National Cabinet meeting, Mr Morrison has said New South Wales will be allowing Pfizer doses to be extended out, allowing for more doses to be administered as the state grapples with a worsening COVID-19 outbreak.

“We discussed and will be confirming over the next 24 hours the ability for, in New South Wales, in their state vaccine centres, for them to do greater amounts of first doses by staying within the medical advice, the target advice, which says that second doses of Pfizer can be extended out to six weeks.

Mr Morrison confirmed this is an “existing regulation” and within the medical advice.

Mr Morrison said extending the timeframe between doses will “increase the dose of first doses that can be delivered” thereby “maximising greater supply we have available”

“We are working to put that in place in New South Wales because of the situation that exists there.”
