For or During? What do these English time prepositions mean and how to use them

We can use the English prepositions 'for' and 'during' to talk about time in English. But the meaning is different.

So when do we say 'for' and when do we say 'during'?

During tells us when something happens but it doesn't tell us how long it continues. We use for with periods of time.
