SOCIAL MEDIA
Next gen’ leader
No more need for mass hysteria
When we’ve got our social media
Panic attack, Trolls are back
Who do we want to sack?
Give me a name, give me a frame
"Witch Hunt", is the new "Hunger Games"
Show no mercy, let there be no reprieve,
Pack up your stuff and quietly leave.
Social media, the new voice of "Throng"
New poll straw shows that we all can't be wrong!
Discrimination, Desperation, Demonisation
All prevalent signs of this generation
The invisible army, more than half are barmy
Out for blood, if you're name is mud
Good or bad, it’s a game of had
Doesn’t this suck! and make you mad!
Tech Giants, no longer compliant
What’s gone wrong? Why are you silent?
Mark Zuckerberg, I am disturbed
You haven’t listened to a bloody word!
FB is a modern cyber cancer
with no cure and no one to answer
Government leaders hands are tied
While you sat in court and blankly lied
Social media, sprawled across the court floor
Not quite dead, whilst your share prices soared.
Another Billion in your back pocket,
Who do think you are you?
"The new Davy Crocket"?
What will become of us?
A generation of zombie cyber dust?
Now who can we turn to, if not you to trust?
Clearly you're no longer one of us.
Taken for a ride, you've stolen our pride
Left us blind, with nowhere to hide
Media Giants without a face
Singularity versus the human race?
To late to put foot on brakes,
Clearly, history likes to repeat mistakes
Losing battles every day
This new war is now in full play
Media Giants, it's time to comply
Just shut up, and don’t ask why?
You had your chance and you blew it
Mankind in free fall, and you knew it.
Reset, restore what we once had before
Just remember you mucked up
Now it's time to suck up
Clear your name, and do the walk of shame
We are nobody’s fool
All we asked was for you to play by the rules
Greed and power thats all you cared for
Now please leave by the exit door!

Social Media, I somehow wish that I wrote this 10 years ago, as for some of us we saw this one coming. Am I a fan' to be honest not really, it wasn't about choice it was more about the "Tech Giants" offering us the so-called new "Sweet Shop" which is open 24/7.
Sadly to say, "Social Media" has since been de-railed. Whilst it was a great conceptual idea, at the beginning. It now has morphed downward to a level where it's hardly recognizable anymore, and fallen into the gutters. Which is i.m.h.o. the state of play of where we are today.
Between "Fake News" and "Make News" it has muddied the waters completely, and then you feel like your left with a broken machine. That coughs and splutters, nothing but utter rubbish.
Which is not what anyone wanted, or expected. Yes, the Tech Giants did play the public into their own hands. Which has been frustrating because we now are putting pressure on the "Tech Giants" to deal with online abuse, bullying, hate, trolls, and a host of other undesirables that plague the social media platforms.
Social Media, frankly had the responsibility from the outstart. Yes, they are happy to make money hand over fist as they have, but equally, they have a responsibility to the public too. Which they have ducked and to this day still choose to disown as theirs.
As a "Care Worker" of 12 years, tragically I have seen far too many instances where the most vulnerable of our society have fallen foul of "Social Media" which is why I wrote this poem and chose to raise the issue using "Social Media" as the very tool against itself. As one old saying says "You fight, fire with fire!" Which is the strategy that I've chosen here.
Just to give you a tip of the iceberg, and that is all I want to do today, is show you some examples of exactly how it's impacting upon our society today.
The flip side to the coin is even the very young have been duped and caught up with spending mum and dads, hard-earned cash to play and fuel their online addiction to their children's games where they can buy enhancements and progress in the game.
I once read a useful book when I was being made redundant by the "Banks" it was called "Who moved my Cheese" it's a very practical book and I found it very helpful when I was going through major changes in my life. So I would recommend getting yourself a copy if you can.
